The government abolished the board of BGMEA and appointed an administrator
The government has dissolved the current board of directors of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA). Instead, administrators have been appointed to the organization.
Vice Chairman of the Export Development Bureau (EPB) as administrator. Anwar Hossain has been given the responsibility. The appointment has been given as per Section 17 of Trade Organization Act-2022.
On Sunday (October 20), Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce (Director General of Trade Organizations) Md. This information was given in an order signed by Abdur Rahim Khan. According to the order, the appointed administrator shall notify the ministry within 120 days of handing over the responsibility to the selected committee through a fair and impartial election.
On August 5, after the fall of the Awami League government, the top organization of businessmen, including FBCCI, dissolved the board of several trade organizations and appointed administrators. Before the political change, the president of BGMEA was Dhaka Metropolitan North Awami League general secretary SM Mannan Kochi. He left the country just before the fall of the government on August 5. After that, Khandkar Rafiqul Islam, the senior vice president of the organization took over as the president of BGMEA
