Nabiganj Government College principal Fazlur Rahman’s body was found at Dhaka Medical College Hospital two days after he went missing.

Yesterday, Sunday, October 20, at 7 am, he died in Dhaka Medical College Hospital while undergoing treatment. Before this, he was missing since Friday, October 18.

According to family and police sources, he left for Brahmanbaria at 8 am on Friday, October 18, to go to his sister’s house. Since then his evening has not been met. An unknown person admitted him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital at 7 pm that day. He died at 7 am on Sunday while undergoing treatment there.

The unidentified person said that the principal was rescued unconscious from Rupnagar in Narayanganj district during admission to Dhaka Medical College. After receiving the information, the Shahbag police station prepared a report of the body and sent it to the morgue for post-mortem.

However, nothing is known about the cause of his death. His wife Syeda Sultana Akhter said that since he left for his sister’s house in Brahmanbaria on Friday, October 18, he could not be found. After much searching, he appeared at the college on Sunday morning and informed the teachers about the matter. Later, a general diary was made at Nabiganj police station regarding the disappearance.

He also said that he was in emotional turmoil due to the movement of college students against Principal Fazlur Rahman. He is also mentioned as mentally ill in the missing person’s diaryMeanwhile, the students had been protesting against Principal Fazlur Rahman for a long time.

Last Thursday (October 17) the principal accused of various irregularities and corruption. General students blocked Fazlur Rahman for about one and a half hours. After receiving the information, the police came and rescued him.

Yesterday, Sunday, the students protested demanding the principal’s resignation. Meanwhile, the students besieged the other teachers of the college. The family and students-teachers are mourning the news of his death. Many consider the death as mysterious and are demanding a proper investigation.

In this regard, Nabiganj police station OC Md. Kamal Hossain PPM said that a general diary was made at the police station on Sunday, October 20, regarding the disappearance. Later we came to know about the death of the principal, and informed the matter to Pabir.

নিখোঁজের দুইদিন পর ঢাকা মেডিকেল কলেজ হাসপাতালে নবীগঞ্জ সরকারী কলেজের অধ্যক্ষ ফজলুর রহমানের মরদেহ পাওয়া গেছে।

গতকাল রবিবার ২০ অক্টোবর সকাল ৭টায় চিকিৎসাধীন অবস্থায় ঢাকা মেডিকেল কলেজ হাসপাতালে তিনি মৃত্যুবরণ করেন। এর আগে গত ১৮ অক্টোবর শুক্রবার থেকে নিখোঁজ ছিলেন তিনি।

পরিবার ও পুলিশ সূত্র জানায়, গত ১৮ অক্টোবর শুক্রবার সকাল ৮টায় ব্রাহ্মণবাড়িয়া তার বোনের বাড়ি যাওয়ার উদ্দেশ্যে রওয়ানা দেন তিনি। এরপর থেকে তার সন্ধ্যান মিলছে না। এদিন সন্ধ্যা ৭টায় এক অজ্ঞাতি ব্যাক্তি তাকে ঢাকা মেডিকেল কলেজ হাসপাতালে ভর্তি করেন। সেখানে চিকিৎসাধীণ অবস্থায় গতকাল রবিবার সকাল ৭টায় মৃত্যুবরণ করেন তিনি।

ঢাকা মেডিকেল কলেজে ভর্তির সময় অধ্যক্ষকে নারায়নগঞ্জ জেলার রুপনগর থেকে অজ্ঞান অবস্থায় উদ্ধার করা হয়েছে বলে জানান অজ্ঞাত সেই ব্যাক্তি। খবর পেয়ে শাহবাগ থানা পুলিশ লাশের সুরতহাল রিপোর্ট তৈরী করে ময়নাতদন্তের জন্য মর্গে প্রেরণ করেন।

তবে কি কারণে তার মৃত্যু হয়েছে এ বিষয়ে কিছু জানা যায়নি। তার স্ত্রী সৈয়দা সুলতানা আক্তার জানান, গত ১৮ অক্টোবর শুক্রবার ব্রাহ্মণবাড়িয়ায় বোনের বাড়ির উদ্দেশ্যে রওয়ানা দেওয়ার পর থেকেই তার খোঁজ পাওয়া যাচ্ছিল না। অনেক খোঁজাখুঁজির পর গতকাল রবিবার সকালে কলেজে উপস্থিত হয়ে শিক্ষকগণকে বিষয়টি অবগত করেন তিনি। পরে নিখোঁজের বিষয়ে নবীগঞ্জ থানায় একটি সাধারণ ডায়েরী করা হয়।

তিনি আরও জানান, অধ্যক্ষ ফজলুর রহমানের বিরুদ্ধে কলেজ ছাত্রদের আন্দোলন নিয়ে মানসিক অস্থিরতায় ছিলেন তিনি। নিখোঁজের ডায়েরীতে তাকে মানসিকভাবে অসুস্থ্য হিসেবেও উল্লেখ করা হয়।এদিকে দীর্ঘদিন ধরেই অধ্যক্ষ ফজলুর রহমানের বিরুদ্ধে আন্দোলন করে আসছিল শিক্ষার্থীরা।

গত বৃহস্পতিবার (১৭ অক্টোবর) বিভিন্ন অনিয়ম ও দুর্নীতির অভিযোগে অধ্যক্ষ মো. ফজলুর রহমানকে প্রায় দেড় ঘণ্টা অবরুদ্ধ করে রাখে সাধারণ শিক্ষার্থীরা। পরে খবর পেয়ে পুলিশ এসে তাকে উদ্ধার করে।

গতকাল রবিবারও অধ্যক্ষর পদত্যাগের দাবীতে আন্দোলন করে শিক্ষার্থীরা। এসময় কলেজের অন্যন্য শিক্ষকদের অবরোধ করে রাখে শিক্ষার্থীরা।তার মৃত্যুর খবরে পরিবার ওছাত্র-শিক্ষকসহ সর্বমহলে চলছে শোকের মাতম। অনেকেই মৃত্যুর বিষয়টিকে রহস্যজনক হিসেবে মনে করে বিষয়টির সুষ্ঠু তদন্ত দাবী করছেন।

এ বিষয়ে নবীগঞ্জ থানার ওসি মোঃ কামাল হোসেন পিপিএম বলেন, নিখোঁজের বিষয়ে রবিবার ২০ অক্টোবর থানায় একটি সাধারণ ডায়েরী করা হয়েছে। পরে আমরা অধ্যক্ষের মৃত্যুর খবর জানতে পেরে, পবিারকে বিষয়টি অবগত করেছি।
