A source in Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed this information to Gurdian Sources said six fishing trawlers with 58 fishermen were seized by Myanmar authorities. The trawlers entered Myanmar waters. Later Bangladesh Navy and Coast Guard negotiated with the Myanmar authorities and arranged for their release. 58 people detained have been returned.
The name of the deceased jailer. Osman (50). And three fishermen including Raju (45), Rafiq (30) were injured. The identity of the remaining one is not known. The body of the slain jailer has been sent back.
According to the sources of Coast Guard and local residents, fishermen went fishing in that area of the sea with a total of six trawlers. There were 10 to 12 prisoners in each of these. Myanmar navy suddenly opened fire at the trawlers yesterday afternoon. At least four fishermen of two trawlers were injured. At one stage Osman died there.
Shahpari Island Mistripara Trawler Owners Association President Mohammad Hasan and Bazarpara Trawler Owners Association President Gafur Alam said that the deceased fisherman Osman is the son of Bachu Mia of Shahpari Island Konarpara. He is a fisherman in a trawler owned by Saiful Company of Bazarpara, Shahpari Island.
Saiful, the owner of the trawler, said that while fishing in the sea yesterday afternoon, Myanmar Navy members suddenly chased the fishermen and opened fire. After that, six trawlers were captured and taken to Myanmar.
